Are You Worried About The Holiday Season?

Since we are stepping into the holiday season, I think a perfect thing to do for yourself during this time of year is to give yourself a gift, a gift that will cost you absolutely nothing – your breathe!

Learning how to allow yourself to TRULY breath throughout the day is so important for your overall health and wellbeing. This in turn affects the way in which you relate to food and eating.

With so many things to do around this time of year many of us get overwhelmed and anxious with all of the demands that we feel are required during this season. These uncomfortable feelings may cause us to use food as a way to control this state that we are sitting in by either restricting our food choices or overeating. I don’t want this for you and I know you outside of ED, doesn’t want this for you either.

By simply CHOOSING to turn to your breath throughout the day and allowing it to do and be what it is meant to be – the gift that your body has given you – you will not only become grounded and more easily connected to the present moment, but from a physiological level will help you become calmer and you outlook on your ability to cope with life will shift.

 This will also help change the way you see and interact with food, something that is certainly a big part of the holiday season.

 Learning how to use your breath as a self-care tool during mealtimes is highly important as well.Holiday eating

 I suggest that before you eat a meal take a deep breathe while looking at and truly acknowledging the food that is sitting on your plate.

Thank your food for giving you the nutrients it is filled with, that will allow you to thrive and nourish and have a great day, furthermore, thank your body for accepting this food. Take a deep breath and then take one more.

 The more you can turn to your breath as a reminder that you are safe, that you are taken care of and that everything is really OK in that moment, the better I feel this holiday season will be.

Remember we don’t have to do anything to breathe everyday, our bodies do it automatically for us, yet when we take a deliberate breath a much deeper and fuller one we are choosing to connect with our bodies, choosing to do something that will benefit our bodies and choosing to take even one extra purposeful breathe to remind us, that we are in fact grateful to be alive.
