Acupuncture: Case In Point (Part 3 of the 3 Part Series)

Who can benefit from Acupuncture?

Just about anyone!  However, acupuncture is not performed on patients with certain serious medical conditions, so your ND will thoroughly screen to see if you are a good candidate. Acupuncture is known to be very effective at treating conditions such as:

  • Physical / Musculoskeletal pain & weakness
  • Insomnia and Sleep disturbances
  • Mental-Emotional Issues / Anxiety / Mood
  • Hormonal Imbalances
  • Female issues: PMS / Infertility, etc.
  • Digestive Issues / Weight loss
  • Neurological issues: Headache / Migraines / Neuralgia
  • Respiratory Issues
  • Eyes, Ears, Nose & Throat Issues
  • Common colds / Allergies
  • And much, much more!

How do you know its working?

Acupuncture can often be a gradual, cumulative process and only in some instances do you experience immediate relief.  In the mean time, you are likely to encounter some general health benefits that are telling you that the treatment is on track:

  • You’re sleeping better:  Find that you are falling asleep easier, having a deeper sleep and feeling rested when you wake up?  Feeling particularly sleepy after an acupuncture treatment? The healing process is underway.
  • There is a shift in your emotional state: Feeling more grounded? Or a big can of worms has been opened up? It’s all positive.  Our physical body can often be a storage area for our emotions and acupuncture has a lovely way of releasing these for us, often making it imperative to face our issues (which is always a good thing in my opinion).
  • You have more energy:  Is your energy feeling steadier throughout the day? Able to hit the gym or exercise more consistently? Just go with it.
  • Your bowel movements are on track: Feeling regular? Consistent? Getting rid of waste? It’s all a good sign.
  • You are better able to handle stress:  Feeling less irritable and bothered by every day annoyances? Parking ticket? Late to work? No big deal.

These are just a few things to be conscious of.  The important thing is to listen to your body, make observations about yourself and participate in your own healing.  It will make the experience that much more effective and enjoyable.

I hope I’ve inspired you to give acupuncture a try (with a qualified professional of course) 😉
