Since many of you will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this weekend, I thought I would share a healthy and nutritious treat to replace [or replenish you after] all that green beer. This leafy-green smoothie is a great way to provide your body with lots of vitamins and minerals, restore your electrolytes, and support your liver (because I’m guessing it will be taking a bit of a hit).
Go GREEN detox smoothie:
• 1 organic apple (has lots of fiber to help your bowels remove toxic waste)
• 1 lemon, juiced (stimulates digestion and liver detoxification)
• 1 cup kale (chock-full of vitamins and helps regulate detox activities)
• 1 stalk of celery (antioxidant and anti-inflammatory)
• 1/3 cup parsley or cilantro (a vitamin A powerhouse: boosts your immune system)
• 1 tbsp ground flax seeds (has omega 3’s to reduce inflammation and fiber to remove toxic waste)
• ¼ tsp ground cinnamon (stimulates metabolism and controls your blood sugar)
• 1 ¼ cups chilled coconut water (flushes out toxins, rehydrates and replenishes electrolytes)
Add ingredients. Blend. Enjoy.
Sometimes it’s about incorporating healthy things into your lifestyle rather than complete restriction from occasional splurges. I encourage you to find the balance in your life, and remember that moderation is key. : )
