Be My [herbal] Valentine

One thing I am really passionate about is making my own herbal remedies. My closest friends and family always know what gifts are coming for birthdays and holidays (although I try to experiment with different products to keep them interested!). In the spirit of Valentines day, I want to share with you a few fun and easy at-home recipes to add a more personal touch to your gift-giving this year.

Super Simple Lavender Massage oil
Lavender is a lovely and easily accessible herb with lots of healing properties. It has a calming effect, helps to reduce pain, improve sleep, and much, much more. Remember that by using pure essential oils such as lavender, you are getting the full therapeutic effect of the herb, and not just the fragrance.

Ingredients: (makes 8 ounces)
• 2/3 cup grapeseed oil
• 1/3 cup wheat germ oil (or sweet almond oil)
• 10 drops vitamin E oil
• 6 drops lavender essential oil

To make: Pour all ingredients into a dark (preferably amber) bottle and shake well.
To use: Shake well before each use. Pour the oil into your hands first to warm it up. Then, so lovingly apply it to your partner’s back, shoulders and neck using a circular motion. Ta-Da! It’s that simple.

Romantic Rose Bath
Rose petals are incredibly soothing and often used as an aphrodisiac. In combination with lemon balm and calendula, this bath will put your body and mind into a deep state of relaxation, allowing you to just enjoy the moment.

Ingredients: (makes 1 treatment)
• 1 tbsp dried Rose petals
• 1 tbsp dried Lemon balm
• 1 tbsp dried Calendula flowers
• 2 cups of boiling water

To make: Place the herbs in a jar (500ml). Pour boiling water over the herbs and steep, covered, for 30 mins to 4 hours. Then strain the liquid to use in the bath.
To use: Add the 2 cups of herbal infusion to the bath tub that is half filled with warm water. Enjoy (for at least 15-20mins) with a good book or with your sweet heart.

*Although these recipes are very gentle, remember to test them out on your skin first.

I hope you enjoy making these nice little treats as much as I do. Have a wonderful Valentines day, whether it’s with your significant other, a friend, or the most special person in your life, you. 😉

In health and happiness,
